The Remote Desktop Web Connection ActiveX control allows you to access your computer, via the Internet, from another computer using Internet Explorer. You must be running Windows XP Professional and using its Internet Information Services (IIS) to host a Web site on the Internet to use this feature.
Remote Desktop Web Connection provides most of the same functionality as the Remote Desktop Connection software; but it does not require a private network, or virtual private network connection.
You can download the software on this page and run setup to install the ActiveX control and sample Web page on your Windows XP Professional computer running IIS.
Windows XP Professional users must specify an installation directory.
1. | When setup asks Where would you like to place the sample web pages directory? enter C:\Windows\Web\TSWeb. Click OK. |
2. | If the TsWeb folder does not exist, setup will ask if you want to create it. Click Yes. |
To download and install the Remote Desktop Web Connection on Windows XP Professional:
1. | Select your language from the drop-down list on this page, and then click Go. |
2. | Read the License Agreement. If you agree to the terms, click I agree. |
3. | When the File Download dialog box appears, select Save this program to disk. |
4. | Choose a location on your computer to save the file, and then click Save. |
5. | Go to the location where you saved the file and double-click the file to launch the Setup program. |

Remote Desktop Web Connection for Earlier Versions
The Remote Desktop Web Connection software update on this page may be installed on Windows 2000 systems, and Windows NT Server 4.0 systems that are running IIS version 4.0 or later.
To download and install the Remote Desktop Web Connection on earlier versions:
1. | Select your language from the drop-down list on this page, and then click Go. |
2. | Read the License Agreement. If you agree to the terms, click I agree. |
3. | When the File Download dialog box appears, select Save this program to disk. |
4. | Choose a location on your computer to save the file, and then click Save. |
5. | Go to the location where you saved the file and double-click the file to launch the Setup program. |
6. | Setup installs the files in the directory you specify. The default installation directory is C:\Inetpub\Wwwroot\Tsweb. |
How to uninstall
To uninstall the Remote Desktop Web Connection:
1. | Click Start, and then click Control Panel. |
2. | Click Add/Remove Programs. |
3. | Select Terminal Services Web Client, and then click Change/Remove to uninstall. |
