Computer Hangs After Performing XP Update

You can use the Microsoft Windows Update website to scan your computer for software updates. The updates include important operating system updates that help keep your computer running smoothly.

However, after performing an update you may have one of these problems:

  • Your computer may stop responding (hang)
  • You may receive an error message or error code, such as:

    0x8007F0F4
    0x8007007E

Error IUENGINE Determining machine configuration (Error 0x8007007E: The specified module could not be found.)

This error can be fixed using the following steps:

  1. Click the button, and click Run.

  2. Type cmd, and click OK.

  3. Type sfc /scannow, and press .

  4. After the process completes, close out the window and perform another Microsoft Windows Update.
