Installing Vista Beta 1 (x86) without DVD media

http://keznews.com/62_Installing_Vista_Beta_1_(x86)_without_DVD_media
Here's a rough guide on getting Vista Beta 1 (x86) installed without the use of DVD media. I am not responsible for lost partitions, data, etc!

  • Pre-partitioned drive with (1) >8GB NTFS partition and (1) >2GB NTFS partition
  • Vista Beta 1 ISO image (untouched)
  • (1) Blank CD-R/CD-RW Disc

Instructions:

  • Create a temporary folder on your secondary NTFS partition (D:\ henceforth) labeled VISTA_TMP
  • Extract Vista ISO image (e.g. with WinRAR) into temporary directory.
  • Delete DRIVERS\, DOCS\, SUPPORT\ folders.
  • Delete SOURCES\INSTALL.WIM image.
  • Extract the boot sector from original ISO image and save in temporary location (e.g. Desktop)
  • Create an ISO with the contents of the temporary folder and import the boot sector. The title of this ISO is irrelevant.
  • Burn the ISO image to CD-R/CD-RW media.
  • Empty but do not delete the temporary folder.
  • Create a SOURCES\ folder inside the temporary folder.
  • Re-extract INSTALL.WIM and BOOT.WIM into newly created SOURCES\ folder.
  • Boot machine off of newly created Vista Preinstallation Environment CD, holding the CTRL key once the old Longhorn logo appears.
  • Within' the command prompt, execute: xcopy X:\ D:\VISTA_TMP. NOTE: X:\ in the command above is not to be changed, it's the temporary RAM disk!
  • After the copy process finishes, execute: D:\VISTA_TMP\SETUP.EXE
  • Continue the setup process as if you had booted from DVD media. Enjoy!

Scan Your Computer with Multiple Anti Virus for FREE

Scan Your Computer with Multiple Anti Virus for FREE

gpedit.msc, eventvwr.msc, access denied

Article from : http://techsalsa.com/steps-to-fix-access-denied-to-gpeditmsc-problem/

My PC was working all fine until I figured out that Group Policy gpedit.msc was not opening on my system. I wanted to open the Group Policy editor for some work and I was shocked to find that not only the gpedit.msc, even the other commands with msc extensions, were not working like services.msc, devmgmt.msc, compmgmt.msc etc.

Then I tried opening the editor by double clicking the gpedit.msc inside the system32 folder and I got the same error “Access is Denied”. What was strange was that I was accessing the editor from my Administrator account only.

I tried following things:

• The first suspect is, of course, Virus, thus I scanned my whole system with the updated Anti Virus but it didn’t find any.

• Then I scanned it with Windows Defender but it also didn’t find any malicious software.

• I rebooted the system and entered in the Safe Mode but the commands were not working in that either.

Solution:

Then I finally decided to run System Restore and restored the system to some safe state I created when the PC was working all fine (good practice to create a checkpoint when the system is fine, isn’t it). I was relieved when this solved my problem.

Note: Try to Restore the system to a restore point created long ago.

UPDATE 1

since the problems vary for different users, installing Microsoft Management Console 3.0 for Windows XP again (as suggested by one of our viewers) may also work for you.

Download MMC

UPDATE 2 (Best Solution Working):

After all the efforts to find out the solution, we have been able to find the solution to this problem (Thanks to our alert reader Dickens). I am describing the solution given by him and is working all fine (i have tested myself on my PC)

  • Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
  • Now traverse to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.msc and delete the registry entry on the right side.
  • After deleting it when you again type gpedit.msc in Run box, it will open an “Open with” dialog.
  • Now select the second option and browse to get a new option; browse to C:\Windows\system32\mmc.exe
  • A new option “Microsoft Management Console” will appear in the window.
  • Select this option and remember to check the box below to always run the command without doing this again and again.
  • That’s it, all .msc extensions will now open.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem:
Recently four computers in my office (3 XP SP2 and 1 Vista SP1) are affected by virus win32.sillyFDC. Although the virus is detected and deleted by Norton anti-virus, something is wrong with all our computers. Here are the symptons:
1 The adiministration tools (event viewer, services, computer management etc.) in control panel can't be opened. The error messages is "C:\WINDOWS\system32\eventvwr.msc, access denied".
2 Run gpedit.msc and get "access denied" error. But it works under command prompt: C:\>mmc %SystemRoot%\system32\gpedit.msc.
3 System restore is disabled by group policy.
4 Remote desktop no loner works.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Solution:
I ran into the same issue and fixed the problem by re-associating .msc files with the Microsoft Management Console (mmc.exe). Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32 folder and right-click the eventvwr.msc file (or any .msc file). Choose 'Open With'. If you see the Microsoft Management Console listed at the top of the next window, click on it to highlight. If you do not see the Microsoft Management Console, click Browse, navigate to C:\Windows\System32, and double-click the mmc.exe file. With the Microsoft Management Console or mmc highlighted in the Open With box, check the box for 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'. Click OK and see if the issue is resolved.

Article From this Site

Internet Explorer(IE7) V7.0.5730.13 for XP SP2 简体中文版 下载地址:http://www.duote.com/soft/3798.html
